Steven F. Wells
1962 - 2007

It is with disbelief and extremely heavy hearts that we convey word that Steve Wells, COAST Executive Director, passed away on Thursday, August 9 at Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NH.

When Steve began his tenure at COAST as the Executive Director in the fall of 1998 he focused first on creating organizational stability. In doing so, he created the foundation for the tremendous growth that has been achieved within the organization in the last few years. Among other achievements, Steve guided COAST through the transition of contract to in-house management of the operations of our system and maintenance of our fleet, he secured COAST a “home” in Dover, he oversaw the implementation of the extremely successful Pease Tradeport - Lafayette Road trolley system, was a leader in implementing a first in the nation, statewide Air Quality Action Program between NHDES, NHDOT & the state’s public transit providers, helped lead the push for renewed efforts toward regional coordination in the Seacoast and he solidified and grew the critical relationships between COAST and the eleven (11) communities we serve. Steve was a tremendously gifted leader who also became a genuine friend to most who worked with him.

We will all miss Steve and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
