Dover and Newmarket, NH:

COAST and Lamprey Health Care are pleased to announce significant changes to the seacoast bus service known as the Coastal Route, effective July 6, 2012. The Coastal Route, which operates on Fridays, will triple its service level and provide three round trips between Seabrook and Portsmouth/Newington. This frequency increase will expand opportunities for riders to travel either in the southbound or northbound direction. The Coastal Route, operated for many years by Lamprey Health Care and supported, in part, by COAST, will retain its “flexible route” status, with some modifications. So that three (3) round trips can be provided along the US Route 1 corridor, the basic route and the number of scheduled bus stops will be streamlined and any diversions from the route for requested drop-offs or pick-ups will be reduced to ¾-mile.

With the “flexible” service now dubbed “call-ahead riding”, riders who are unable to get to one of the bus stops identified in the schedules will need to call Lamprey Health Care at 800-582-7214 or 659-2424 by noon on Thursday for scheduled pick-ups and drop-offs on Friday. There will be no additional charge over the $2.00 one-way fare for pick-ups or drop-offs along the route.

The increased frequency of service is made possible by a grant from the NH Department of Transportation with Federal Transit Administration funds. Generous support from NH’s Endowment for Health provides the matching funds needed to support this service increase. Due to the nature of the funding, elderly and disabled individuals have priority, but the general public is welcome as space permits.

COAST and Lamprey Health Care have been long-standing partners in delivering transportation services in the region and each are members of the Alliance for Community Transportation (ACT). ACT is the Regional Coordinating Council for community transportation in the “southeast NH region” which includes 38 communities along the Seacoast and north to Carroll County. COAST is the lead or coordinating agency for ACT and manages “The Community Rides” program of projects to improve community transportation throughout the region. The Coastal Route improvements are part of The Community Rides program.

More information about the Coastal Route changes can be found at COAST’s website www.coastbus.org/lamprey_coastal.html or by calling Lamprey Health Care at 603-659-2424.
