North Bus expands to Farmington, increases frequency, expands coverage of rural areas

Dover, NH – COAST is excited to announce that as the North Bus enters its second year of service to the rural communities north of Rochester, an expansion will take place beginning May 8, 2012. The North Bus will begin serving residents of Farmington, increase its frequency in other towns, and take riders to more locations throughout Rochester. Riders in Farmington will be picked up on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Wakefield, Brookfield, and Milton will have service increased to two days per week: Wednesdays and Fridays.

The North Bus began providing weekly service in April 2011 as a pilot project intended to improve access to essential services for those living in rural communities. The North Bus has served Wakefield, New Durham, Milton, Middleton, and Brookfield once per week, bringing riders from their homes to go grocery stores and pharmacies in Rochester.

New destinations will include the Department of Health and Human Services and Workplace Success, as well as other services housed at the Rochester Community Center. The Lilac Mall, Globe Plaza, and the Rochester District Court will be served as well.

“COAST’s goal is to improve access to essential services by increasing the level of service wherever and whenever possible,” explained Rad Nichols, Executive Director of COAST. “We’re pleased to be able to add additional locations and to better serve the needs of our customers.”

The wheelchair accessible minibus was purchased with federal funds and generous support from the United Way of the Greater Seacoast. The bus is driven by volunteers who donate their time to make this service available for their neighbors.

“Our volunteers are essential to the success of the North Bus,” added Jeff Donald, Assistant Manager of Coordination, “without their help COAST couldn’t afford to provide transportation to these communities.

The North Bus is open to the general public, just call 1-855-736-4287 (1-855-SENH-BUS) to reserve a spot.
