COAST To Implement Fare Increase

Date: December 29, 2003
Dover , NH

The Cooperative Alliance for Seacoast Transportation (COAST) will be increasing fares for the first time in a decade from $0.75 per trip to a $1.00 per trip, regardless of distance traveled. Monthly passes, good for an unlimited number of rides during the month purchased will increase from $25 to $35. Steve Wells, Executive Director says, "In the past, Route 2, which travels between Portsmouth, Dover and Rochester, was priced according to how far you were traveling. A passenger traveling between the two farthest points would pay $1.75, so in fact this is actually a fare decrease for some of our riders."

As in the past, COAST will not offer transfers. However, COAST will continue to offer half-fares for seniors (65 years and older), disabled and individuals possessing a valid Medicare Card. The half-fare policy applies to COAST's fixed route service during all hours of operation and is not applicable to COAST's ADA service or monthly passes.

The COAST Trolley fare of $1.00 will remain unchanged; however, the Trolley is currently free to all passengers and is sponsored by the Pease Development Authority and the City of Portsmouth .
