COAST Bus & Trolley Fare Information

COAST Bus Fares:

Fare increases became effective January 2nd, 2009. The information below reflects the current fare structure. Fares are also clearly posted on every bus as you board. You must have exact change ready when boarding. Drivers cannot make change.

COAST Fixed Routes: $1.50 per trip, regardless of route and distance travelled.
Fixed Routes include Routes 1, 2, 6, 7, 30-34, and do not include the Trolleys (Routes 40/41, below).

COAST Trolleys (Pease Tradeport and Lafayette Routes 40 and 41): $0.50 (50 cents) when boarding.

Monthly passes available for $52. Monthly passes are good for unlimited rides on all COAST and Wildcat Transit Routes (Routes 1-7, 30-34, 40-41). Monthly passes are not available at "half-fare" discounts (see below).

Due to the imbalance of fare structure between COAST and Wildcat Transit, any passenger displaying a UNH ID, Wildcat Transit monthly pass, or UNH Library Card must pay $0.50 (50 cents). COAST monthly passes will still be honored at full value on board Wildcat Transit routes (3, 4, 5).

Other Fare Policies:

• Have exact change ready as the bus approaches
• Dollar bills MUST be unfolded.
• Children under 5 years of age ride FREE on COAST Trolley and Buses
• Children under 12 years of age may not ride unaccompanied.
• Fare evasion is illegal and punishable by law.
• Using correct denominations of bills (as in, using a $1.00 bill) is the responsibility of the passenger. COAST cannot be held responsible for passengers who mistakenly overpay. For example, if you mistakenly place a $10.00 bill in the farebox, it cannot be returned to you under any circumstances. Take care to place the correct bill in the farebox.

Half-Fare Policy:

Effective August 1st, 2009, COAST will enforce the half-fare policy consistently on all routes, requiring that passengers show or be able to show proof of eligibility. Many people are eligible for half-fare due to their age or because they hold a Medicare card. If you fall into these groups, there is no real change, except that drivers will be more stringent about seeing a photo ID or Medicare card. However, if you believe you are eligible for half-fare based on a disability and do not hold a Medicare card, you may want to complete a half-fare application and send it to COAST.

Half-fare privileges are extended to elderly (65 years and older), disabled, and individuals possessing a valid Medicare Card.  To qualify, please show the bus driver one of the following upon boarding:

1. Photo ID showing proof of age (for elderly only);
2. COAST ADA Eligibility Card and Photo ID;
3. COAST Half-fare eligibility Pass and Photo ID;
4. Medicare Card and Photo ID. 

The half fare policy applies to COAST's Fixed Route Service during all hours of operation, but is not applicable to COAST's ADA service.
